A guide for feeling left behind.

Maybe you’re actually ahead

Would you look at that person on Instagram and where they are! I’m so Jealous. Why aren’t I doing that?

Did you see! They got another promotion? I’ve been in the same position for 2 years now, I must not be special.

I was born just inside the 1990’s. I wasn’t here for the previous 50 years of existence, but I can say with some level of confidence that the last 25 years the world has gone through some fairly significant changes & challenges.

Before the 90’s if you wanted to see your friend, you had to call their home phone, say hi to their parents or sibling, get the phone transferred to your friend, then arrange a time & place. Then hope they showed up.

Now you can be up to speed with everything that everyone is doing at just about any moment of the day.

This level of connectedness has had a huge positive impact on the world, but it has brought with it some terrifying negatives.

People now see the top 1% of people from every walk of life from business, modelling, fitness, celebrities. You get the picture.

Before this time, people knew all these people existed, but they didn’t have to face their own morality from comparison to these people at every step.

The world we know is meant to be experienced. If you’re reading this you are the universe experiencing itself.

What you like, the friends you have, what makes you smile & what makes you passionate are all the ingredients that make you, You.

Why do we compare ourselves to people we don’t know?

Each person is given their own set of struggles, their own opportunities, lifestyles, abilities, but when we see these people living these lives different to ours, sometimes it’s easy to take the self pity path.

If you’re feeling left behind, I must ask, by what metric?

From my experience in this world, I’ve met countless people who up until their final breathes are still working out their own existence. Each life filled with their own unique set of beautiful challenges, tough moments & memories.

Who said you had to have a degree by X age?
Do you even need a degree?
Does that person on instagram living that lavish life actually have personal fulfilment?
Does that fancy job title you see on LinkedIn make them a better person?

Those questions are meant to be answered differently because we are all in our own race.

To care less about strangers on the internet is liberating, to choose & grow your own path at whatever speed you’re comfortable with, that’s called living.
